We stood in front of our entire church this past weekend and told them our big number. $134,711.10. I don’t need to look it up anymore – it is imprinted in my brain. We are leading a Financial Peace class there in a few weeks and honestly, I really enjoy sharing our story. We are over halfway through our debt payoff journey now and the amount of personal growth and teamwork we’ve experienced has been life-changing. We submitted a $1,000 payment on a student loan today which officially puts us over $80,000 paid off. $80,766.65 to be exact.
If you read our post last February we have made about a $20,000 dent in less than a year. We would have made almost $30,000 if it weren’t for a hefty tax bill, a few emergencies, a no-regrets Hawaiian vacation, and some cash flowed home renovations.
We have $53,944.45 left to go and honestly I feel like we are on the homestretch. It seems like second marathon but I am optimistic that it will go by quicker than we think.
We sat down together on January 1 and set some intentions, rhythmns, and goals for our year. We wanted to be debt free by the end of 2019 but realistically that probably won’t happen. We walked through our expenses for the year and set a goal to pay off another $30,000 by the end of 2019.
I don’t really have a specific goal for this post other than to document how proud I am of J.R. and I for working so hard toward a goal together. I want to be able to look back and remember today just like I can remember dancing in our kitchen 11 months and $20,000 ago. All the praise and glory to God!
