If you are a bride you are familiar with the initial meet up you do with your photographer. You email them, grab some coffee, book them, get married, hopefully get awesome photos. After weeks and weeks of searching for a photographer with our date open we were sent a referral for this gal named Ashley Crawford. I can remember the exact morning to this day. I got an email – clicked through the referral link – and immediately freaked because if I didn’t book this lady my wedding would be ruined.
A few weeks later and we meet up with Ashley at a Starbucks in Omaha. JR and I can hardly contain our excitement. Ashley is the perfect mix of chill and legit professional. You can tell she know’s whats up but also like says she wants to be friends with all her brides. I was dying on the inside like “YES I TOTALLY HOPE WE END UP FRIENDS!”
Flash forward to this past fall and Ashley, who is now expecting her second baby, is on a trip to Italy with her darling daughter Gemma and English (yes, English, dreamy accent and all!) husband Nick. She posts this cute little postcard she found in Capri, Italy and says it was the first special item they got for their son’s nursery. My heart flutters inside thinking of all the ideas I have for the perfect room to welcome this new little blessing.
On a whim I messaged Ashley one day if she needed any help with her nursery fully expecting a thanks but no thanks. (Per my own self-doubting self.) She responded with an absolute YES and we got started. She sent me her ideas and we started out with three design plans.
I came up with a few different plans to narrow down what she really liked and what she wanted to pass on and then had Ashley send me a few photos of ideas she really liked. The three below were the top ones we really drew inspiration from. They had already purchased this crib and this changing table/dresser from IKEA. She also had a rocker that she wanted to use so we used a stand in. She absolutely loved the cobalt blue rug in option one (originally from Urban Outfitters but a million times cheaper on RugsUSA.) We also decided to a gallery wall and use some shelves with a raw wood bracket that she loved.
Ashley travels a ton as a photographer along with the fact that her husband is from England so they visit family there often. She had initially suggested doing a cloud theme, hot air balloon theme or a travel theme. We landed on travel since it would be a bit more timeless as he got older and we would be able to use lots of her own work as decor. They also had a great collection of postcards that I was very excited to implement.
I think this is Ashley’s favorite picture by far. She sent it to me three or four times throughout the design process. She love the varied sizes and colors of the prints so a gallery wall was an absolute must!
She also sent me a 4-5 pictures with a triangle wall. We added this to the design plan but ran into a bit of a “sticky” situation (more in the reveal) and ended up not using them. What we did end up pulling from this photo as well as the one above is the drawer pulls to help customize the dresser they had purchased earlier in the year. These leather pulls were in 3-4 of the photos Ashley sent me and she didn’t even realize it. Pinterest is a total game changer when you pin away and go back and look for similarities!
Also a funny note from the picture above. JR’s best friend’s name is Chet and I was telling Ashley a story about him and she laughed that Nick, her husband, would say it is such an American name. We talked a ton about common names in England (Gemma is similar in popularity to Jessica in the US) vs. common names in America (Nick thinks the name Chad is hilarious!). I went back to post this photo and the baby’s name is CHET! Too funny!
This was the final plan we decided on and it got the official “OMG I am obsessed” response from Ashley that we were good to go. We had a few changes throughout but the end result is very close to the original plan. I cannot wait to share the final reveal for you all.
