Guest Bedroom Reveal: Camp’s Emerald Haven

April 7, 2017 in Room Reveals

Ok, so I spent about three hours thinking up that headline. It sort of sounds like he is hoarding props from The Wizard of Oz in this room – maybe he’ll start! If you missed it you can check out the design plan for the bedroom here. I really wanted to do a project other than another bathroom and my husband needed a break from all of the major demo so a bedroom was a great next step. We moved from Lincoln, Nebraska to Kansas City at the beginning of February so we have quite a few visitors then before at our old house. My mom, brother-in-law, and both my sisters have came and visited already in the short time we have been here so putting together a relaxing space for them to stay made a lot of sense. I also have a pretty high maintenance puppy on my hands that loves that room – great squirrel watching – so I let him take the lead on designing the space. Sassy, right? Well it is finally done! Ready for the reveal?

Side note: We are doing an AWESOME, and I mean AWESOME giveaway for this post so be sure to check out how to enter at the bottom of this post!

Here is the sort-of before picture. We had already started painting and I forgot to take a picture so this is all I got. This room didn’t require anything crazy – it has pretty white trim, cute little brass knobs on the closet doors, and great windows. It was an estate sale when we purchased it so the seller was a lawyer in California – he had someone come out and install all new carpet and paint all the walls a subtle gray. Nothing too exciting. Also here is our crazy client. He really micromanaged the whole deal…

What a looker! We have already had our first guests and I have to say – I think they were pretty impressed! Who wouldn’t want to sleep under that giant gorgeous headboard! Surprisingly we had a lot of items hoarded in our basement so we didn’t have to purchase much. We sold the old bed and bought the new headboard, scored that little dresser from an estate sale, and purchased a new light fixture. Everything else we already had!

The dresser was a great find! It was hidden in a garage at an estate sale with no legs. The owner had used it to store all his garagey/yardwork chemicals so they did quite a number on the top but other than that it was in great shape. I bought new legs from Lowe’s (found here) and for the sake of time I spray painted them gold instead of staining them. The matched the existing hardware really well!

The handlettered map print was one I ordered from Lovewell Handlettered during one of her sales. Seriously check her store out – Piper is the best! I mounted it on pink (yes, PINK!) plywood and will have a DIY post on how to make your own next week!

I had all the decor items already and made a cute little polaroid station so guests could take a few photos on their trip. My great grandmother always had a journal in her front entry that she had everyone that visited sign. There would be notes as far back as the 60s of them playing cards with their friends or having birthday parties. One note even had a friend from high school’s grandparents in it from a card playing night! I thought this was a great little way to carry on the tradition.

That bed! Still can’t get over it and am seriously wondering as to why we didn’t use it for the master. We already had the stands in our master bedroom and found some cute marble pink side tables for the master so we swapped these out. The side lamps are from Ikea and worked great to layer in with the headboard so it didn’t look overly fancy. The little “let’s get lost” sign was a $5 find from Goldie and Myrtles in the KC West Bottoms!

The light was a great find from World Market but I didn’t check the floor model before I brought it home and it is technically a shade. You need to by an additional light kit to hook it up. The light kits at World Market are made to plug into the wall so I would suggest getting a kit from Ikea if you aren’t super comfortable with a lot of electrical work.

Side Note/Review: I really like the light and think it is super high impact but I would suggest getting a large bulb since you can really see under it from this height. There was also some weird residue on the gold pieces and some were bent but I think it still looks great. Just be aware – the reviews online are pretty accurate.

I started stocking up a little guest bedroom cart with the necessities – once it is finished I’ll be sure to share a list! The photos above the cart are from our wedding photographer Ashley Crawford. She went to Hong Kong recently and added a few new prints in her shop!

The curtains are from Ikea and I bought white hardware and spray painted it gold. I think it ties in great with the brass light fixture.

That is it! Here is our happy relaxed client – he obviously loves the room since the window for the squirrels is the other direction. I can tell he rests a lot better and is 10x more chill now that he has a space where he can just be himself.

As always, you get a chance to win a bit of paradise for yourself! We are giving away a $30 giftcard to Lovewell Handlettering (where I got this awesome map!) To enter comment on this post, follow us on Instagram, and tag a friend on the Instagram post!

I really love the map but more importantly, love how you make it all tie in together! Of course I am anxious to stay in the room so I can get the “after” vibe – I stayed there in the BEFORE renovation stage and really needed to get some new looks going! Just kidding…love the final product! You go girl – love all your work…

I absolutely love the color coordination! The headboard on the bed makes the best area really pop. I really love the way you decorated the space as well, it looks so uplifting and cozy!

Thanks Marissa! I wish the photos did that headboard justice – I stand a gawk at it at least three times a day! 🙂

I am really impressed with your vision for all these pieces and colors and how they all came together! I love how you already had so many things that you had been collecting, and since they were all you, they all worked together so perf! Love the little touches like the Polaroid station! When can I stay?!

Thanks Mary Ellen! A little (or a lot) of color never hurt anyone! 🙂

Get ready for company! That is divine!❤️ Grandma Stauffer’s guestbook😪, sweet memories. Thanks for sharing. Decorating is one thing, but it’s the “treasures” and traditions that make a house a home. Hugs

Kylie! You have done another wonderful job with this project! And I also love your writing that goes along with your posts, your voice really comes through.
I am in love with the headboard, it is such a beautiful color and a very classic design with the tufting. Also, the chair in the corner really adds to the room. I like how it is not too matchy matchy but the fabric and color is cohesive with the headboard. The white walls with the pops of color is a dream. I honestly want to live in this room so it is hard to pick one favorite. Do yall need a roommate?

Ha you can come stay with us whenever! Even indefinitely! Haha!

You did such a great job with the room! I’m going to have to come visit soon!! While I love all of it, I really like the little sitting area, it’s just so cute and I could imagine curling up there with a book. I also love the tray in the polaroid station.
